Friday Pizza Night Recipe

Our new family tradition (for the past 6 months or so!) has been to make our own pizza and watch a movie all together. Devin loves making our own pizza because we've gotten very fancy about it, and I like it because it's cheap. No one is surprised.

It took a lotttt of trial and error: store bought crusts failing us, online dough recipes being too sticky, etc. We've finally gotten it down to a science (more like a "science," since my flour measuring is as precise as a child's.)

Homemade Pizza Dough:

Step 1: Mix the following together in a bowl and let sit for 5-10 minutes, until foamy:
  1. 1 tbsp olive oil
  2. 1 packet quick rise yeast
  3. 1 tsp sugar
  4. 2 tsp salt
  5. 2 cups warm water
Step 2: Add 4-5 cups of flour and stir together.

Step 3: Dump onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes.

Step 4: Add about 2 tsp of oil to the mixing bowl, add the dough ball, and toss to coat the dough. You just want enough oil that the dough doesn't stick to the bowl.

Step 5: Cover with plastic wrap and let rise for 4+ hours.

Step 6: Preheat a pizza stone in the oven to 500 degrees. Then, punch to deflate, and divide into 3 equal balls. Stretch to preferred size on a floured surface (we always prepare the dough on lightly floured parchment paper). You can also use a rolling pin!

Step 7: Brush the edges of the crust with olive oil, add sauce, then cheese.

Step 8: Lower the oven temp to 425 degrees. Bake on the preheated pizza stone for approx. 10 minutes.

**How to up your pizza game: Buy a name brand whole milk mozzarella cheese in block form, then shred in a food processor/cheese grater. Use this homemade sauce recipe (warning, it takes hours!).
