Story Behind the Blog Name

I'm not a huge fan of my blog name. Can I admit that? I'm part of this blogging group where each day I get introduced to such funly-named blogs (that's a word, just got with it) and it just spotlights the fact that my blog's name is meh. It's not especially creative or witty, but my previous blog name wasn't clever either. 😂

This space used to be called "the college years" (since I started the blog in 2010 in my freshmen year of college!), but I was edging closer and closer to graduation and still wanted to write in this blog. I picked A Hopeful Hood because it plays on my last name being Hood (duh), but really, it represents so much more than an alliteration with my last name.

A tendency towards optimism
I'm a firm believer in giving people the benefit of the doubt. I don't want to be a cynical person who's jaded outlook masquerades as "realistic." Maybe her comment was made to be mean...? But maybe she just didn't phrase what she really meant that well. I'll go with the second assumption. Though I definitely have my moments of assuming the worst, I really strive to be optimistic.

Hope in Jesus
Ultimately, this space is a reflection of my foundational belief that Jesus is the only reason to have hope in this life. That's about as narrow-minded as you can get. I know. However, it's infinitely more freeing to follow Jesus than to have an "everything goes" belief policy. My hope for the future is based on the fact I believe in a kind God. Even when everything's going wrong in this world, my hope resides in knowing that there's more to this life.

Just so you know I don't take myself too seriously, I'm working on potential captions for these images: "I dropped something and am looking for it so intently!" and "Cute baby distracts from my strange hairline" are in the running. ;)

If you're a blogger, I'd love to hear how you named your blog! Let me know in the comments below!
