Fall Date Ideas (Or, Enjoy the Outdoors Before It Snows)

This past week, both little ones have been sick, and it's been so hard to watch them be so unhappy!  After continuously prepping doses of Motrin, offering them applesauce and juice (only to have it rejected 108 times), and holding them close because all they want is to be in your arms.....I am ready for a date night.

(I'm also REALLY thankful they're feeling better.)

I'm ready to get out of the house and leave them in the capable, loving hands of their grandparents. And I'm ready to do all the fall sheeet because, hello, I just spent what felt like YEARS trapped inside with inconsolable small humans.

Of course, I'm really tempted to be cynical about doing fall stuff, when EVERY dang picture in my feed is a baby in a pumpkin patch. But I'm going to stuff that cynicism down and invite Devin to join me on some of these fall-related dates, because repressing your sarcastic side is what all the Be Your Best Self books recommend! (Jk. I wouldn't know. Mostly because I don't read those.) (Also I will probably take the typical kids-in-a-pumpkin-patch photo, too, so go ahead and lump me in with all your #basicmoms.)

Anyway.

Grab your friends or your husband or your dog and head out to do some seasonal stuff, and enjoy the cooler temperatures and sunshine and flavors and fun stuff.

  1. Apple-picking, because without kids in tow, you can go as fast as you want, and you won't have to keep repeating "Leave that nasty rotten apple on the ground!" in a panicked voice.

  2. Find some farm that has cider donuts. Then walk around. Do NOT waste your time on a farm that doesn't offer apple cider donuts. This very specific requirement will help you narrow down your options.

  3. Have a bonfire + s'mores + hot cider (spike it, if you're feeling wiiiiild from repressing your cynical side)

  4. Go on a hike or trail with an overlook, even if you've done that trail before. The view will inevitably look different in the fall!

  5. Grab hot coffees, walk around a nearby town (if you're in the Philly area, head to Peddler's Village!), and talk about all the things you're thankful for.

  6. Wine tasting, brewery tour, etc. (Jacqui has me convinced I need to visit the Cape May Winery!) Fall-colored cardigan and boots not optional.

  7. Rent an Airbnb in the mountains and enjoy what fall looks like somewhere else! (I'm repeating myself. I said this same thing in my last post about a girls weekend trip, too. Whatever. Let's move on.)

What fall stuff have you been up to? Are you rolling your eyes at all the typical fall pictures of babies, too?!
